Long before he started releasing music under his own name, Clanton actually performed under the moniker "Mirror Kisses", so he has always been fascinated by the images we project and the masks we wear. Sonically, the album is a beautiful, loud collision of heavy 90s trip-hop drums and warm, blurry electronic melodies. It feels less like a standard pop record and more like a time capsule from an alternate reality, making it an incredible listen for a month dedicated to reflection. When Clanton sings, “When you come back again We can convene, make it forever” it feels like a desperate plea to stay frozen inside a perfect, golden moment of life, safely hidden away from the ticking clock. Ultimately, Slide is an album that dares you to look past the surface glare. It is a striking moment where the mirror stops being a tool for vanity and becomes a place of pure, honest confrontation.
