A Minor Bird
I have wished a bird would fly away,
And not sing by my house all day;
Have clapped my hands at him from the door
When it seemed as if I could bear no more.
The fault must partly have been in me.
The bird was not to blame for his key.
And of course there must be something wrong
In wanting to silence any song.
Notes
Frost confronts our human impulse to silence the persistent, messy rhythms of the world when they clash with our personal anxieties, tracking his own regret for wanting to shoo away a singing bird. It serves as a beautiful micro-meditation on July's philosophy, demonstrating that heavy burdens often stem from our own desire to control and tidy up a transient reality. By ultimately declaring that there is something deeply wrong with silencing any expression of life, the poem invites the self to drop its rigid defenses, step out of its own head, and gracefully co-exist with the unburdened music passing through the hour. . #poetry #robertfrost #romantic #nature #music
